O Divine Spirit! As in those last days of the visible dwelling of Jesus on earth, the seed of the divine Word has been abundantly scattered on the earth, proceeding from his heart and vivified by his blood. Now as always, we await you in a renewed Pentecost, so that the seed may germinate, flourish and bring good fruit in the holy Church.
O Divine Spirit! The Lord Jesus has gathered his disciples in the Cenacle of the Eucharist, around the virgin Mary, occupying them in continuous prayer, and prohibiting their spreading through the world to preach the Gospel and to win souls to heaven, until they would be clothed and filled with your power from on high.
Come, O divine Spirit! We contemplate the angel of the annunciation that announces to the virgin Mary that the Holy Spirit will descend on her, that the power of the most high will fill her, and thus the great things announced to her by the Lord will be fulfilled. She will truly be the ever virgin Mother of the incarnate Word.
Now, Jesus himself, the glorious, resurrected Jesus, the incarnate Word and Son of God, he person, divine angel of the New Testament, announces that you, O divine Spirit, will descend upon and stay within the apostles and the disciples, and thus inaugurate publicly the holy Church of God and of his Christ, for salvation and universal sanctification.
Come, O divine Spirit, now and always, no less than in those times. The divine will and the divine glory want you, O divine love, O unique animator of the Church, for us now, no less than for the apostles, the disciples. The divine will and the divine glory want you, O divine love, to be the unique sanctifier of the faithful.
Come, O divine Spirit, to imbue us with the superior life of your love, the only elevating and vivifying love! You elevate human life endowing it with soul and reason; likewise you elevate Christian life, endowing it with grace and virtue, to an ever greater participation in your life, making us capable of a superior spirituality and activity, in the supernatural order.
Come, O divine Spirit! Come to elevate and perfect with your gifts the working of the theological and cardinal virtues! Come to elevate and perfect, with your beatitudes, the happiness of the souls of the just, granting to them a more adequate imitation of the virtues of Jesus and of the divine perfections, to the greater glorification of the most holy Trinity.
Come, O divine Spirit! Come to elevate and perfect with your fruits all the virtuous acts that you yourself inspire in us, so that no occasion may go lost, no intention may be forgotten, no talent may be buried, no capacity may be mutilated, instead, may all attain heroism of virtues and no flower of pious desire may remain without its fruit.
Come, O divine Spirit! Come to elevate, perfect and multiply all our good dees, with supreme efficiency of charity, so that all the good that is accomplished in the Church and in the world may be truly seraphic for the glory of the divine Trinity, may be truly apostolic for the edification of the souls, for the triumph of the kingdom of the heavens on the earth.
Come, O divine Spirit! Come with your charisma to glorify the redemption and the Church of Jesus Christ! Multiply the saints in every time and in every place, so that sanctity may become the norm of human life. Grant that emulating and living the charisma of charity, the most meritorious for us, the most edifying for the neighbour and the most glorifying for God, we may ascend to divine union.
